Never A Penalty

The retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson as the Manchester United manager prompted many tributes - but few so evocative as this offering from Private Eye - which captures the paranoia of football supporters the world over.

When his beloved Manchester United stood to benefit from the award of a penalty Sir Alex was never in any doubt - and he was just firm in batting away the penalty claims of opposing teams.

The truth is that football drives all reasonable people - completely mad.

Lines on the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson

So. Farewell
Then, Sir Alex.

Yes. You were
Britain's most successful
Football manager.

It was never a penalty
That was your catchphrase

It was definitely a penalty
That was another.
