Man the Lifeboats
A kind reader sent me the following letter from Councillor Peter Craig - which has apparently appeared in most of the local newspapers in South Lanarkshire.
Now I've never met or spoken to Councillor Peter Craig - but it seems to me that he has hit the nail squarely on the head - so let's hope the Council is listening.
Dear Sir,
As South Lanarkshire's Equal Pay claim drifts inevitably on to its conclusion, I am struck with the vision of a leaky lifeboat full of Labour Councillors frantically bailing out, in an effort to keep it afloat.
While in the meantime the lowest paid workers in South Lanarkshire who have been treading water for the last eight years in their claim for fair wages, watch from the cold surrounding sea.
The most striking thing of the vision however, is that it's not water the Councillors are throwing overboard to keep themselves from going under, but much needed taxpayers money.
The ironic thing about this vision is that the leaky boat, the stormy weather and the anger of the low paid workers are all of the Labour party's own making, indeed the only part of this vision that is not of their making is the taxpayers money.
