Union Sell Out Underway?
Readers across Scotland will be interested to know that - according to reports - a blatant union sell out appears to be underway in Clackmannanshire Council.
Council managers have hastily arranged meetings for some council employees this Friday 8 October - former manual workers only - and have invited people with outstanding claims to accept new settlement offers.
The arrangements have been made with the knowledge and approval of the unions - yet curiously there's no sign of union lawyers being present for these stage-managed signing events.
Supposedly 'independent' lawyers have been asked along by council managers - but why would the unions allow that to happen when union members should have access to their very own union lawyer?
Very odd.
Not every Action 4 Equality Scotland client has received a letter - but Fox Cross Solicitors has assessed the new offers and the advice is that they are 'shockingly bad'.
If the unions really are lining up alongside council managers - then they are being used to help persuade their own members into accepting poor offers of settlement.
My advice to union members would be to demand to see a union lawyer - ask for their advice and insist that this is put in writing.
Better still don't be pushed around by these tactics.
It's not too late to switch your claim to Action 4 Equality Scotland - if you're being given the run around by your trade union.
