Clackmannanshire Council
Clackmannanshire Council has apparently sent out 'new offer' letters to employees - who are pursuing an equal pay claim with Action Action 4 Equality Scotland and Fox Cross Solicitors.
The letters invite people to attend 'signing sessions' later this week - where they would be invited to accept the council's offer - and effectively sign away their rights in respect of any future claims.
Allegedly 'independent' solicitors will be present to offer advice - the letters go on to say.
But of course one solicitor cannot advise another solicitor's clients - without inviting serious trouble and complaints about their behaviour.
Clackmannanshire Council has sent out these letters without speaking to anyone at Action 4 Equality Scotland or Fox Cross Solicitors.
So the council's behaviour is really quite outrageous.
A major hearing on the Clackmannanshire cases is due to take place later this month at the Employment Tribunals - at the end of October 2010.
The council is clearly up to no good by sending out letters at this stage - they are clearly trying to persuade people to give up their claims on the cheap.
Fox Cross Solicitors and/or Action 4 Equality Scotland will write to all clients in Clackmannanshire Council as soon as possible.
In the meantime, if you receive such a letter from the council:
1 Send a copy in to the Edinburgh office
2 Ignore any invitations to attend a 'signing event' - this is a trap
3 Don't sign away your rights - without getting proper written advice
