Keith Brown, Nicola's Knees-Up and Public Money


I mentioned yesterday that I am blocked on social media by Keith Brown, the SNP MSP for Clackmannanshire and former SNP justice minister. 

I wonder if this has anything to do with my post from last year poking fun at the SNP's attitude towards public money - when a whole host of SNP bigwigs were all chauffeur driven home after a private knees-up for Nicola Sturgeon in Edinburgh.

If so, it's an extraordinary was for an elected public official to behave.

Party On, Dudes! (July 13, 2023)

SNP ministers were chauffeur driven home after a knees-up in Edinburgh to mark Nicola Sturgeon leaving the Scottish government.

Humza Yousaf, his deputy Shona Robison were ferried home at public expense along with health secretary Michael Matheson, equalities minister Christina McKelvie, her husband Keith Brown, Elena Whitham (community safety), Clare Haughey (former children's minister), Neil Gray (wellbeing secretary), Mairi McAllan (environment minister) Tom Arthur (finance minister) Angela Constance (justice secretary) and John Swinney.

Peter Murrell was present although it is not known if he and Nicola Sturgeon were chauffeured back to Glasgow, as her travel records are not released on 'safety' grounds. 

The Scottish government defended the use of the car service because of the need for security and to protect secret documents - which is, of course, complete baloney.

SNP - Conspiracy of Silence

So here's the issue - two Glasgow MSPs (Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf) have been asked a reasonable question about their use of public money to employ two SNP councillors who already have full-time, salaried jobs as senior elected members of Glasgow City Council.   But these two public servants (both long-serving ministers) refuse to answer, so what to do next? One regular reader suggests raising the matter on the floor of the Scottish Parliament which is a good idea, but requires an MSP who's prepared to put down a written question for Scottish Ministers to answer.
