Thatcher, Sturgeon and Cowerin' Timorous Beasties
Never mind all the stage management and ridiculous posing, the key point in comparing Thatcher and Sturgeon is their total domination of government - and the party of government.
In fact the SNP have gone one further with their Mr & Mrs Double Act which involves Mrs Sturgeon's husband, Peter Murrell, acting as the SNP's chief executive.
Just imagine the furore if Denis Thatcher had been CEO of the Conservative Party at the same time his wife was Prime Minister and party leader!
Even Mrs Thatcher never enjoyed this kind of total control which helps explain why so many SNP politicians are scared to stand up and speak out - they've all been cowed, they're cowerin' timorous beasties, you might say.
Scotland's 'Mr and Mrs' Chumocracy (June 07, 2021)
Scotland is the only part of the UK where a family franchise dominates both the party of government and government itself.
Can you imagine the hoots of derision if Boris and Carrie (or others) were a Mr & Mrs double act?
