Glasgow City Council and Double Standards
A number of Glasgow council workers contacted me when the news first broke (back in April) about Carole Forrest leaving GCC's employment under a voluntary redundancy scheme which is simply not accessible to the vast majority of low paid, front line workers.
If a job has to be replaced (to keep services going) it's not a redundancy situation and this applies to the vast majority of employees who have kept vital services going during Covid - carers, cooks, cleaners, clerical staff, classroom assistants, refuse workers and so on.
Yet by virtue of an unexplained internal reorganisation the second-in-command at Scotland's largest council can somehow access a voluntary redundancy scheme and leave for another job in the private sector with a £95,000 pay off.
As 'B' says (see post below) there appears to be one rule for those at the top and another for those at the bottom of the council's pay ladder.
So why do Glasgow's politicians have nothing to say about what the SNP led council is doing - why do we have all these councillors, MSPs and MPs if they are too timid and scared to speak out?
Glasgow Council and Senior Officials (April 08, 2021)
B has 38 years service with Glasgow City Council, but as an essential worker would not qualify for GCC's voluntary redundancy scheme - because B's post would have to be replaced.
Beats me how Scotland's largest council can make its Director of Governance and Solicitor to the Council redundant though I'm sure there must be an official report somewhere explaining the logic involved.
