Nicola Sturgeon's comments about English visitors staying away from bars and cafes in Scotland are being roundly ridiculed - and deservedly so.

No wonder she's ducked out of the Scottish party leaders' debate on Question Time tonight.

Sturgeon under fire for BBC Question Time snub

NICOLA Sturgeon has been accused of "running scared" and dodging scrutiny after snubbing a special Holyrood election edition of BBC Question Time.

The leaders of all the other Holyrood parties have agreed to take part in Thursday’s show, which will feature questions from a virtual audience.

However the First Minister will not appear, and the SNP have put up their depute leader Keith Brown instead.

In the only TV leaders debate so far to include audience questions, Ms Sturgeon was repeatedly criticised by members of the public over her plans for a second independence referendum after the Covid crisis.

Ms Sturgeon last appeared in a BBC Question Time leaders special in the 2019 general election campaign, when she was not a candidate.

So here's the issue - two Glasgow MSPs (Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf) have been asked a reasonable question about their use of public money to employ two SNP councillors who already have full-time, salaried jobs as senior elected members of Glasgow City Council.   But these two public servants (both long-serving ministers) refuse to answer, so what to do next? One regular reader suggests raising the matter on the floor of the Scottish Parliament which is a good idea, but requires an MSP who's prepared to put down a written question for Scottish Ministers to answer.
