Immigrant Song
I thought the following number by the legendary rock group Led Zeppelin should make a fitting 'swansong' to Chris Bryant's career on the opposition front bench - as the Labour Party's immigration spokesperson.
I also managed to find a YouTube link, so that readers can hear the words for themselves, but no matter how many times you hear them sung - they still make about as much sense as Chris Bryant's by now legendary attack on Tesco and Next.
And just to make things even better, the track is introduced by the equally legendary but now deceased, John Peel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvftxdy0k54
"Immigrant Song" by Led Zeppelin
Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs flow.
The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!
On we sweep with threshing oar, Our only goal will be the western shore.
Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
How soft your fields so green, can whisper tales of gore,
Of how we calmed the tides of war. We are your overlords.
On we sweep with threshing oar, Our only goal will be the western shore.
So now you'd better stop and rebuild all your ruins,
For peace and trust can win the day despite of all your losing.
