Clackmannanshire Council
Clackmannashire Council is continuing its efforts to persuade more low paid employees to give up their equal pay claims on the cheap - see previous posts dated 5 and 12 October 2010.
The council has arranged more 'signing sessions' in the run up to Christmas - a well worn tactic which other councils have used - and it doesn't take a genius to work out why.
The advice to Action 4 Equality Scotland clients is not to go anywhere near these signing events - the new settlement offers are among the worst put forward by any employer in Scotland.
Clackmannanshire Council won't explain the basis of these offers - properly at least.
People won't be told candidly that they are being invited to accept a poor settlement - which is worth much less than the true value of their claims.
If experience elsewhere is anything to go by - any 'independent lawyers' present will be doing little more than witnessing people's signatures as they sign their rights away - as opposed to advising council employees about the merits of the offer.
As usual the unions will be lending the process a measure of respectability - by not campaigning vigorously in defence of their low paid members.
So the best thing to do is to stay well away - and hold out for what your claim is really worth.
