Humza Yousaf popped up on social media with pound shop version of the famous Monty Python sketch - What did the Romans ever do for us? - in which he talks up the achievements of Muslims.

Now some of these claims are overblown because Muslims didn't discover optics or invent algebra - instead they built upon the advances in human knowledge made by earlier cultures, eg the Greeks.    

But more recently Muslims have also brought forth Islamic extremism - 'Islamism' an extreme jihadist offshoot of their religious faith has spawned a bewildering array of terrorist groups including:

1. Hamas
2. ISIS
3. Al Qaeda
4. Al Shabbab
5. Hezbollah
6. Houthis
7. Boko Haram
8. Islamic Jihad

Now most victims of these murderous gangs are other Muslims, of course, although their have also been terrible atrocities against non-Muslims - including Charlie Hebdo, 9/11 and October 7.
