Scotland, Drug Deaths and the SNP

Scotland's position as the drug deaths capital of Europe remains seems secure under John Swinney and the SNP.

Every leader in recent years has promised to get top grips with the problem, but every leader including John Swinney, Humza Yousaf and Nicola Sturgeon has failed.

So Joe Fitzpatrick has resigned, but as a Glasgow MSP Nicola Sturgeon bears more responsibility, arguably, for the Scottish Government's failure over drug deaths.

Not least because Fitzpatrick has only been public health minister since 2018 - whereas Nicola has been First Minister and Deputy First Minister of Scotland since 2007.

Joe FitzPatrick has resigned as Public Health Minister after facing mounting pressure over drugs deaths failings.

He was facing a motion of no confidence from opposition MSPs but has "agreed that I should leave government".
