Scottish Labour's Big Offer - More Fudge

Scottish Labour's manifesto says nothing about protecting women's rights to single sex spaces and like the UK party faces both ways on the Cass Review. 

Gender affirming care is the real conversion therapy of course and is being used to 'trans away the gay'!

You'd think Labour would have something more insightful to say given recent experience of self-ID - and the fact that the vast majority of Scots reject the notion that men can just magically declaring themselves to be women.


Labour's Big Offer - Fudge! (June 13, 2024)

I've been to more trade union and Labour conferences than I care to remember and the oldest trick in the book is to make policy via 'composite motions' which face in opposite directions at the same time.   

Take conversion therapy - Labour says it will ban the practice while protecting the freedom for people to explore their sexual orientation and gender identity.

But what does this actually mean?

The Cass Review makes clear that the enemy in this field is 'gender affirming care' which the trans lobby has ruthlessly promoted for years despite the obvious harm done to young people struggling with their sexual identity.

What Labour is offering is fudge not leadership - so expect more of the same when it comes to Labour facing up to the nonsense of self-ID and men declaring they have magically transformed themselves into women.

Barber Shop Joke

Here's a joke someone sent me recently - which hits the nail right on the head when it comes to Westminster MPs. Now I know there are many honourable exceptions when it comes to MPs and their expenses - not all of them had their noses in the trough. But while only a handful ended up in court - the truth is many more were happily exploiting 'rules' which were drawn up to protect public money. Only for MPs to drive a coach and horses through the rules on a regular basis - making a complete mockery of the 'golden' rule - that expenses could only be claimed for things that helped MPs do their jobs effectively.  Like dog food - or getting someone to launder your shirts and pants.    And that's not all - because the House of Commons allows many bad practices to continue - by turning a blind eye to things that would be outlawed in any other walk of life. Kentucky Fried Seagull

Hugh Fearnley Whitingstall is one of my favourite - and endearingly bonkers - TV chefs. The River Cottage chef has a some imaginative ideas for adding seagulls to the national diet - including a recipe for Kentucky Fried Seagull - would you believe.
