Rip It Up (And Start Again)

Despite their handsome salaries and being surrounded by a small army of advisers Team Sturgeon is having to tear up and rewrite a complaints procedure they introduced just a few short months ago.

Nothing quite says incompetence like having to 'rip it up and start again' which is a great cue for the 1983 hit by the Glasgow band Orange Juice.

Wouldn't it be great if incompetent politicians just fessed up, acknowledged their failings and agreed to step aside?

The Scottish Government is to rewrite its bullying and harassment complaints procedure for ministers and former ministers just months after its launch.

The process was overhauled last year in the wake of the Alex Salmond affair, with a new system introduced by deputy FM John Swinney taking effect from February.

The changes were designed to offer more protection to civil servants complaining about their bosses, with investigations undertaken by outside experts not fellow officials.

However Nicola Sturgeon today said it would be changed after opposition parties warned it was excessively secretive, with findings against ministers withheld from the public.

So here's the issue - two Glasgow MSPs (Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf) have been asked a reasonable question about their use of public money to employ two SNP councillors who already have full-time, salaried jobs as senior elected members of Glasgow City Council.   But these two public servants (both long-serving ministers) refuse to answer, so what to do next? One regular reader suggests raising the matter on the floor of the Scottish Parliament which is a good idea, but requires an MSP who's prepared to put down a written question for Scottish Ministers to answer.
