The GMB union has also written to members in Glasgow City Council advising that strike ballots are about to get underway in the long-running dispute over equal pay.

Dear GMB Member
Equal Pay Negotiations are no further forward, it’s time to strike.
Continued negotiations around a settlement for equal pay are going nowhere fast. Glasgow City Council are continuing to try and play games whilst key workers like you are being discriminated against every day whilst delivering essential services, enough is enough.
GCC are refusing to honour the same arrangements made in 2018, attempting to exclude thousands of jobs from any future payments and will not begin to enter discussions around a future interim payment for thousands more.
We have been in discussions with our legal team, our sister unions and other joint claimant organisations. Our verdict is unanimous, now is the time to strike. We may never have a better time to take action, this years council elections provide you with massive extra leverage and power, it is yours to take.
GMB Scotland are now preparing the necessary paperwork and legal documents required to being an industrial action ballot. These ballots will be sent out to you at the home address we have on record. If you have recently moved home please contact GMB Scotland immediately to update your details.
We are organising further events and actions to coincide with the ballot period to help encourage everyone to return their ballot as fast as possible, key an eye on our social media pages and keep in touch with your local shop stewards.
In solidarity, Sean Baillie GMB Scotland Regional Organiser |
