SNP Double Act - 'Gon Yersel Nicola'

 

The world of politics, like the world of comedy, produces some well-known double acts.

Blair and Brown spring to mind, Salmond and Sturgeon were once a formidable duo and are now estranged, but on a more local, Glasgow stage Sturgeon and Hunter are still going strong.   


Glasgow, Graffiti and Copycat Behaviour (November 10, 2021)

Graffiti is no joke - this kind of wanton vandalism trashes local communities where people live and work, but it also encourages the worst kind of vile copycat behaviour.

See the example below in which Nicola Sturgeon and her colleague Mhairi Hunter both 'liked' a spray painted slogan (in the run up to the Scottish Parliament elections) which said 'Gon Yersel Nicola'.

Just days later the rival words 'Gon Raffle Yersel Nicola' appeared. 

Glasgow Graffiti and Copycat Behaviour (October 02, 2021)

Liking or encouraging graffiti never seems like I good idea to me because it always leads to copycat and tit for tat behaviour.

So liking 'Gon Yersel Nicola' just leads to 'Gon Raffle Yersel Nicola' and the losers are local people and businesses whose property gets defaced.

I've been banging on about Glasgow's ugly graffiti problem for ages, but in all this time I've come across only one case where local politicians 'liked' a spray painted slogan which presumably they must have found funny and/or flattering. 

  

First Minister, 'Wee Neds' and Glasgow Graffiti (September 24, 2021)

Glasgow council leader Susan Aitken is taking a bit of a pasting for her comments about 'Wee neds and spray cans'.

But it must be hard to stamp this out if the First Minister herself, Nicola Sturgeon, and her office aide, Mhairi Hunter, use social media to voice approval for graffiti they happen to like.

My comment about encouraging copycat and tit for tat behaviour proved to be absolutely correct, of course.

 


 

Glasgow's Ugly Graffiti Problem (24/03/21)

I came across this Twitter post last night which stopped me in my tracks because unless there's something dodgy going on it seems to show Scotland's First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon 'liking' a Tweet on graffiti in Glasgow.

Surely not? - because it will simply encourage copycat and tit for tat behaviour.

SNP - Conspiracy of Silence

So here's the issue - two Glasgow MSPs (Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf) have been asked a reasonable question about their use of public money to employ two SNP councillors who already have full-time, salaried jobs as senior elected members of Glasgow City Council.   But these two public servants (both long-serving ministers) refuse to answer, so what to do next? One regular reader suggests raising the matter on the floor of the Scottish Parliament which is a good idea, but requires an MSP who's prepared to put down a written question for Scottish Ministers to answer. So here's a list of activities which will help shine a light on what has been going on because as Lord Nolan once said apropos driving up standards in public life - 'daylight is the best disinfectant'.
