Councils, Council Workers Pay and the SNP

Clackmannanshire Council Clackmannanshire Council

After being told 'there's no more money' to fund a decent pay rise Scotland's council workers must be stunned at the news from Clackmannanshire where the SNP council leader, Ellen Forson, has a second job as Office Manager for the local SNP MSP, Keith Brown.

Now Cllr Forson already receives a full-time salary in respect of her job as Clackmannanshire council leader - £30,000 a year plus pension benefits and expenses.

The salary of her second job is not disclosed, but as the job title suggests an Office Manager is a key public-facing role, likely to be a full-time commitment and be paid a good salary of £25,000 to £30,000 - possibly more.

The obvious question to ask is how one person can possibly do both of jobs at the same time?

Particularly if one or both of the jobs are designated as a full-time commitment - which is certainly the case with the council leader's role.

What questions were asked, for example, what checks were carried out during the recruitment process - who was in charge of the recruitment process, Keith Brown as the local SNP MSP?

More to the point who was looking out for the public interest because this is a terrible look - it looks as if the SNP has been using public money to boost the pay of elected councillors.
