Job Evaluation, Grades and Pay

Here's an interesting Twitter exchange in which Stefan Cross explains that while Glasgow City Council has taken an important first step to replace its 'unfit for purpose' WPBR with a new Job Evaluation Scheme (JES) - that's not the same thing as developing a new pay and grading scheme.

More to follow shortly - so watch this space!

Let’s hope so. But remember the discriminatory pay is still continuing. The future is as important as the past. No new pay scheme has yet been agreed. Lot of work to do.

Did I just imagine the CAC where we agreed which scheme to adopt? https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/councillorsandcommittees/Agenda.asp?meetingid=15825 …

Yes if you thought CAC agreed a pay and grading scheme. As I’ve mentioned before the JES scheme does not determine pay and grades. They are 3 separate issues and you really should know the difference

I think you are talking about how it will be implemented. If you have a way that can be done quickly in one go we are all ears.

No I’m not. The JES just gives a score. Without separate pay and grading agreements there is nothing to implement. Although all other councils used the scheme, their pay and grading vary enormously. You need all 3 elements. Eg if Jes gives carer 400 points- what’s it worth?

You seem to be suggesting that somehow we can do this immediately to end discrimination. I don't see how that is possible.

And I haven’t suggested that. I merely ask that you are accurate. Implying WPBR has ended and a new pay scheme agreed is just wrong. And the fact remains officers are still defending WPBR WCD and EDC& Cordia. Let’s hope the new meetings are more positive

I haven't suggested that though. Decisions have been made about how to end discrimination but there is no way to do this that doesn't take time because it is complex. I think that needs to be recognised.

Lot more decisions to go. I hope some big ones by the end of this week.

Hopefully yes.

Replying to @MhairiHunter @StefanCross1

I think ultimately the officers have to just let it go and face up to the fact WPBR is dead in the water and work towards getting comparators for each person and work from there. Move forward not backwards
