Tom and Jeremy (27/08/15)

Tom Watson is the bookies favourite to become Labour's deputy leader and if Jeremy Corbyn also wins the leadership crown then the Peoples' Party will be represented by two middle-aged, white men.

Albeit Jeremy Corbyn is actually 66 years old, but no doubt you get my general drift.

So I had to laugh when I read the following opinion piece by in The Independent the other day in which Tom Watson argues that the Labour Party needs to look and sound like the communities it represents.

http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/we-need-to-change-labour-so-we-can-change-the-country-10457385.html

Now I agree with that sentiment and believe that the same standard should apply to the trade unions in the UK which are, in reality, unrepresentative organisations that behave more like Labour-only closed shops when it comes to party politics and the kind of people trade unions employ in leadership positions.

Like 'Organisers' for the GMB trade union whose job descriptions require potential applicants to work in the interests of the Labour Party which is both ridiculous and discriminatory, if you ask me.

So let's see if Tom or Jeremy (now that has a ring to it) will put their money where their mouth is by immediately standing down, if elected, in the interests of making the Labour Party more representative of the people it claims to represent.
