The Independent reports that UKIP have remained decidedly loony all the way to the end of the general election campaign with one candidate being suspended at the last minute for threatening to put a bullet in his Conservative opponent.

Ukip has suffered a series of setbacks on the cusp of the election, after it was forced to suspend a candidate for threatening to kill his Conservative rival.
Another candidate was facing calls for suspension when it emerged he made offensive comments about the Independent columnist Yasmin Alibhai-Brown. And a councillor for the party in South West Surrey revealed he would be defecting back to the Tories, calling the decision to join Ukip a "grave error".
