Word of God
The consecration of the first woman bishop in the Church of England was met with a protest by a religious nut-job, Rev Paul Williamson, whose grounds of objection were that women bishops "were not in the Bible".
Now this is a familiar line of argument by religious fundamentalists everywhere who insist that their holy books and texts are the literal word of God which religious believers must follow slavishly rather than adapt to the modern world.
So in the tiny mind of the Rev Paul Williamson because the Bible does not contain any references to women bishops, the Church of England has to remain stuck in the past, in a time warp reflecting the the kind of society that existed many centuries ago when these words were first written down - by male religious leaders, of course.
Apparently the Rev Williamson is a old ally of the Rev Ian Paisley and he has brought so many legal cases against the Church of England in the past that he has now been banned by the High Court.
Which sounds about right, but at least he wasn't threatening to blow himself up or kill anyone over his fundamentalist religious views.
