Modern Dilemmas

Peter Brookes cartoon

In response to the latest atrocities by the Islamic State (IS), this time against Coptic Christians in Libya, the Egyptian Government responded by attacking IS positions and these strikes apparently killed dozens of these Islamist murderers.

I'm not sure what if any civilian casualties were involved, but in this Times cartoon Peter highlights a modern day dilemma: how to bring such terror groups to justice if they operate within civilian areas and use the local population as a kind of human shield.

Now there's no easy answer to that because asymmetric warfare is a deliberate tactic of modern day terrorism although if the Egyptian Government did nothing in the face of such barbarism against its citizens, I suspect the situation would get even worse.

And how encouraging is it to see a Government led by Muslims taking action to protect a Christian minority by confronting an ultra-violent, out-of-control Islamic sect who claim to represent the Muslim faith.
