Man's Best Friend

People often get worked up about 'lies, damed lies and statistics'.

But sometimes it's pretty effective to tell a story with the help of numbers - as this recent offering from the Private Eye magazine demonstrates.

NUMBER CRUNCHING

4
Fox attacks on children reported in the lat 10 years, leading to calls for cull of foxes

6,000
Dog attacks on children requiring hospital treatment each year, not leading to call for cull of dogs

Now I know that the British public have a great - sometimes insane - attachment  towards 'man's best friend'.

And that there's no such thing as an inherently 'bad dog' - because irrresponsbile owners are really the ones to blame for all these dog attacks.

All the same I'm not sure how that helps when some 'pit bull' cross breed - is biting big lumps out of your arms and legs.

So if the dog is not to blame surely all these owners should be prosecuted, have their dogs removed - and be prevented from ever owning a dog again in future.
