Glasgow - Strike for Equal Pay

Another GMB member explains why she is striking next week, in support of the fight for equal pay with Glasgow City Council.

Glasgow - Strike for Equal Pay! (13/10/18)

"Working in Home Care, you’re working in isolation. You don’t get to see your colleagues every day like you do in other jobs, so when you get hit with split shifts and lose your public holidays or your enhanced overtime, you feel like you’re suffering it all on your own.

Since I’ve become Branch Secretary and I’ve been doing representations and dealing with other women who’ve been doing the same job, you can see the effect it’s had on us all, and how our health has been deteriorating. The meetings about the equal pay campaign have been fantastic, and I’ve met so many strong women and through the campaign we’ve all built each other back up again.

The strike is about equal pay, but it’s about so much more than that. It’s about sending a message to the council and showing the value of what we do every day for the people of Glasgow."
