Sexual Predators and Softer Sentences

Sky News reports on a dangerous sexual predator, Regan McClinton, who was jailed for just six years after attacking and attempting to rape two young girls aged 15 and 11

McClinton's attacks occurred in April 2023 and he has been free to walk the streets until his conviction in September 2025.

McClinton denied the offences despite the evidence against him and was handed a more lenient sentence because of his age, ie under 25 

"McClinton was handed an extended sentence of eight years and nine months at the High Court in Kilmarnock on Thursday, with six years and nine months in jail and two years on licence once released back into the community.

"Lord Cubie said he took Scotland's sentencing guidelines for under-25s into account."
