The Rise and Fall of Nicola Sturgeon

Nicola Sturgeon ought to have stood down from her Glasgow Holyrood seat when she announced her resignation as First Minister in February 2023 - that would have been the right and principled thing to do.

Instead Sturgeon continued to draw her MSP salary while putting most of her efforts into writing a memoir, trying to rebuild her public image (with the help of a minor celebrity or two) - and setting up a 'tax-efficient' private company for her new book-related earnings.

But the whole thing is unravelling badly as Sturgeon's many critics accuse the politician cum author of rewriting history - and her role in the tumultuous events which led to such her sudden and unexpected fall from grace.

The last person I remember combining book writing with politics was Jeffrey Archer, former Deputy Chair of the Conservative Party - and that didn't end too well.
