Well, Well, Well - SNP Mobile Malarkey!

 

I received a response to my FoI request about the mobile phones used by Nicola Sturgeon as First Minister - see post below dated February 23, 2024.

Here's what the Scottish Government had to say: 

"Response to your request"

"The Scottish Government has no record of purchasing personal devices for Nicola Sturgeon or contributing to their running costs."

Now what does this mean?

Because I didn't ask about 'personal devices' - I asked for information about the phone used by Scotland's First Minister during the Covid pandemic.

Unless, of course, this means that Nicola Sturgeon was using a single phone for all Scottish Government, Scottish Parliament, personal and SNP business.

Surely not, as this would be truly bizarre, unprofessional and highly irregular.

 

SNP - Mobile Phone Malarkey (February 23, 2024)

I got so fed up listening to all the spin, lies and dissembling nonsense about the SNP ministers and their mobile phones that I decided to submit a FoI request to Humza Yousaf and the Scottish Government.

Dear First Minister

FOISA Request

I would like to make the following request under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

1) Please confirm whether the mobile phone which the former First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, used during Covid and replaced in December 2020 was purchased with public money?

2) Please confirm whether the additional running costs of this mobile phone (network sim card, insurance etc) were paid for with public money?

3) Please confirm whether the new replacement phone issued to the former First Minister's in December 2020 was purchased with public money?

4) Please confirm whether the additional running costs of this new replacement mobile phone (network sim card, insurance etc) were paid for with public money?

SNP Mobile Phone Malarkey ()

Is Nicola Sturgeon seriously suggesting she did not claim the running costs of her mobile phone on expenses?

Even though it was used for Scottish Government, Scottish Parliament and MSP constituency business?

I'm afraid this doesn't make sense - nor does the claim about passing the phone on to a family member.

SNP - Conspiracy of Silence

So here's the issue - two Glasgow MSPs (Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf) have been asked a reasonable question about their use of public money to employ two SNP councillors who already have full-time, salaried jobs as senior elected members of Glasgow City Council.   But these two public servants (both long-serving ministers) refuse to answer, so what to do next? One regular reader suggests raising the matter on the floor of the Scottish Parliament which is a good idea, but requires an MSP who's prepared to put down a written question for Scottish Ministers to answer.
