Another Day In Scotland - Another Miscarriage Of Justice
The Sunday Mail reports on yet another disturbing case in which an alleged rapist was charged with rape, but was later allowed to escape prosecution.
Scotland's Lord Advocate is now under pressure to reverse the decision to let a 17-year-old male who was charged with raping his 17-year-old ex-girlfriend to be diverted from court under a scheme designed for younger offenders.
The young woman who has not waived her right to anonymity said:
"I hope that prosecutors review my case as the diversion route was never meant for serious sexual crimes like rape."
The 17-year-old’s plea for justice came as her mum joined forces with the mum of another rape victim whose alleged attacker was dealt with via the controversial scheme.
The mum of the 17-year-old victim said:
“These rules have to be changed to make sure those accused of rape don’t get to just walk away and get on with their lives whilst their victim’s lives are devastated."
