Brass Necks and Scottish Ministers

I have to say I was shocked at Aileen Campbell's golden goodbye because it’s morally bankrupt to accept a payment of £75,000 when the former SNP minister is walking straight into another well paid job.

The alleged purpose of the payment is to help the person ‘adjust’ to their new life outside of politics and, perhaps, a period of unemployment.

Yet in Aileen's case there is no significant adjustment involved, so it's money for old rope.

Some say 'these are the rules', but that's exactly what some said about the Westminster MPs' expenses scandal and the fact is that the SNP have presided over this nonsense for over 14 years.

 

Tacking Inequality, Sturgeon and the SNP (July 07, 2021)

What a strange way the SNP has of tackling inequality - by giving people in well paid jobs large sums of public money (£75,000) they don’t need and haven’t earned.

Is this what Nicola Sturgeon means when she talks about SNP values?

SNP - Conspiracy of Silence

So here's the issue - two Glasgow MSPs (Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf) have been asked a reasonable question about their use of public money to employ two SNP councillors who already have full-time, salaried jobs as senior elected members of Glasgow City Council.   But these two public servants (both long-serving ministers) refuse to answer, so what to do next? One regular reader suggests raising the matter on the floor of the Scottish Parliament which is a good idea, but requires an MSP who's prepared to put down a written question for Scottish Ministers to answer. So here's a list of activities which will help shine a light on what has been going on because as Lord Nolan once said apropos driving up standards in public life - 'daylight is the best disinfectant'.
