Calling Glasgow!
Stefan posted an update on Facebook last week about an ongoing dispute with Glasgow City Council (GCC) over the payment of pensions.
Not all Glasgow claimants are affected, but this who are will receive a letter and 'Mandate' from A4ES or one of the other Claimants Organisations (GMB, Unison and Unite).
The signed mandates are needed by A4ES and the trade unions in case we need to register formal complaints with the Strathclyde Pension Fund.
So if you receive a letter through the post, please complete and return the Mandate as soon as possible.
COMPLAIN! COMPLAIN! COMPLAIN!
So we have still not been able to sort out the pensions issue with SPF and GCC. The problem is the info supplied by GCC to SPF on what was the correct final salary as a result of the equal pay settlement. We believe that the vast majority of the revised pensions calculations are incorrect. GCC accept that there is a problem but because of resource allocations have not yet been able to fix the issue. Unfortunately in pensions cases there is only a short time limit for making claims for errors. This is 6 months from the incorrect calculation and for most people that starts running out in January.
Therefore, despite the fact that GCC are still being helpful, we need to protect your positions (for those directly affected.) SPF require anybody submitting a complaint on behalf of someone else to have a direct mandate from each person. This means that A4ES and the unions will be writing to all its affected clients sending a MANDATE to allow us to submit a complaint vs gcc and SPF.
IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT IF YOU GET A MANDATE FORM THIS MUST BE SIGNED AND SENT BACK. NO MANDATE NO COMPLAINT.
IF THAT HAPPENS YOU MIGHT BE STUCK WITH THE WRONG PENSIONS PAYMENT FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!
Who is being sent a mandate - all people who have had an equal pay settlement AND have left the council AND WERE IN THE PENSION SCHEME and HAVE HAD A RECALCULATION
Who wont get a form -
people not in the pension scheme
people who have not left the council employment
people who have not yet had a recalculation
If you are in any of these categories you will NOT get a letter. Please do not ring asking why you’ve not got a letter (you would be amazed how many times this happens)
You can send back the signed mandate by email, text or by post.
We will try and put up some FAQs on the A4ES website.
