North Lanarkshire Update

Regular readers will recall that Action 4 Equality Scotland won a major victory in its fight for clients to have their equal pay claims processed on a pensionable basis.

Good progress is being made in resolving all the outstanding issues and here is a brief update courtesy of Sarah Gilzean at HBJ Gateley, the solicitors who have been acting for A4ES clients in this long-running dispute.

Wave 1
All of the Wave 1 calculations have been done. Some of the Wave 1 claimants should have already received a payment for any uplift to their lump sum and any adjustment to their monthly pension will have started from 15 July monthly payment. There is another group that is currently being processed and they may not be paid until 15 Sept (due to a software issue). There is a 3rd group where Strathclyde Pension Fund are querying the pay data they have received from North Lanarkshire Council.

Wave 2
Brodie's Solicitors have been instructed by North Lanarkshire Council and advise that they are now taking steps to have the settlement payments made pensionable where required. HBJ Gateley will continue to liaise with Brodies on behalf of A4ES clients and are pressing for an early resolution of all the A4ES cases given the length of time they have been outstanding.
