Carry On Corbyn (17/08/16)

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn made a bit of a dick of himself over his latest stunt in which he was filmed sitting on the floor of a Newcastle bound train because he turned down the opportunity to upgrade to first class.

Jezza spoke directly to camera with the following words (a handy film maker was recording his trip):

“Is it fair that I should upgrade my ticket whilst others who might not be able to afford such a luxury should have to sit on the floor? It’s their money I would be spending after all.”

Now this is a load of old bollix if you ask me, because Jezza was en route to a Labour party event so why would he claim (their) money on expenses or expect his train fare to come out of the public purse?

If Jeremy is trying to make himself out to be Labour's equivalent to the Game of Thrones 'High Sparrow', he's not doing such a great job as a fellow Labour MP claimed that Corbyn's experience had been staged.

Tom Blenkinsop, Labour MP for Middlesborough and South East Cleveland said:

"I have to make a similar journey every week and I certainly don't paint myself as some kind of martyr for the cause.

"Why is he sitting on the floor when he has an office full of staff who could have booked him a seat, unless he was doing it for PR purposes."

Why, indeed?
