Back to the Future

The new Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has spent much of the past 10 months telling everyone that he represents a new kind of politics, a complete break with Labour's recent past.

Yesterday the shadow chancellor, John McDonnell, announced that in a desperate effort of restore its credibility on managing the economy, a future Labour government would balance the nation's spending books, by living within its means and borrowing only to fund major investment projects.

But this is no different to the policy stance adopted by the last Labour leader, Ed Miliband, and the last Labour government that was in power between 1997 and 2010.

A case of back to the future, if you ask me, after all the windy rhetoric of the Labour leadership campaign.
