I thought Morten Morland captured Labour's new defence policy rather well in this cartoon for The Times the other day - Jeremy Corbyn as a Trident submarine firing blanks at the 'enemy'.

 Now I don't see much purpose in the UK's 'independent' nuclear deterrent, given our current  membership of Nato, but nor do I see any point in one-sided unilateral gestures, as if the UK is not part of a successful military alliance which has kept the peace in Europe for the past 70 years.
