North Lanarkshire Update

I could not get along to the Glasgow Employment Tribunal (ET) hearing on 30 November 2015 involving GMB members from North Lanarkshire Council who are still fighting for equal pay.

Apparently the case was delayed on the day because the Employment Judge scheduled to hear the arguments fell ill, but thankfully alternative arrangements were made and the hearing did not have to be postponed.

I'm told that a decision will be made in the New Year and let's hope it goes in favour of the Claimants who have been shabbily treated over the whole business especially as their work colleagues receiving settlements several months ago.

The GMB is still blaming North Lanarkshire Council for the fiasco even though senior union officials have previously admitted that the 3-year restriction on its members' claims in NLC was down to a policy decision of the GMB.

In other words while the GMB is trying to blame everyone else for this terrible mess the union has only itself to blame for not following the lead of Action 4 Equality Scotland and the other claimant organisations including Unison and Unite.
