Islam's Catch 22
Goldsmiths Student Union in London is at the centre of an escalating row after a prominent human rights activist, Maryam Namazie, was harassed by Islamist goons while speaking about the twin threats that the religious 'crimes' of blasphemy and apostasy pose to ex-Muslims and non-Muslims.
Now regular readers will know a Muslim who turns their back on Islam is regarded an apostate according the the Quran and this 'crime' is punishable by death under Sharia law.
The problem is compounded by the fact that any attempt to challenge such a law as ridiculous and outdated in the 21st century is regarded as blasphemy under Sharia law - another religious 'crime' that is punishable by death.
So Muslims, non-Muslims and ex-Muslims are caught in a kind of Catch 22 in which any challenge to this religious orthodoxy, dating back to the Dark Ages of the 7th century, can never succeed because of its own impossible internal logic.
The following YouTube video shows Maryam Namazie trying to put across her point of view while being constantly intimidated by a small gang of bullying Islamist men who attend her speech at Goldsmiths Student Union to disrupt and intimidate, rather than listen to and debate what she has to say.
Goldsmiths is apparently investigating the incident, but the Student Union has form in this area and made the headlines back in May when its diversity officer, Bahar Mustafa, claimed that as an ethnic minority woman she could not be racist or sexist towards white men- see link below to a report in The Independent.
But the real issue at Goldsmiths is the use of blatant intimidation to discourage and deny freedom of speech; the constant interruptions by the goon squad, the sound of mobile phones going off and attempts to sabotage Maryam Lamaze's talk bring great shame on a place of learning, if you ask me.
A Bahar Mustafa is listed as a "sister" in ISOC's sisters group on facebook.
