Public Partners

Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS) is the public body charged with promoting good standards of care in the NHS - north of the border.

HIS is looking for members of the public to become involved in its work which includes visits to NHS hospitals, as part of its programme of regular inspections, and here is the recent HIS advert which explains the background in more detail

So, why not give HIS a ring and volunteer as a public partner because the NHS can only get better as people who use its services - as a patient, carer or family member - bring their own experiences to bear.

“We give our time because improving quality in the NHS matters to everyone. If you feel the same, come and join us.”

Helen, public partner

Our volunteers work with us to ensure the voice of patients and the public is heard in our work to advance the improvement of healthcare in Scotland.

There are various ways you can help us, by being a member of an inspection team, working with us to develop and promote standards and good practice and support their implementation, or contributing to a range of other work to ensure better treatment for all.

If you are a confident communicator with good analytical skills, can bring a genuine desire to help us improve health care services in Scotland and are able to dedicate some time to our programmes of work, we will provide you with appropriate training.

No previous experience is required, but we specifically ask that you have not been employed in the health service within the last five years.

Some travel throughout Scotland with overnights stays may be required (expenses will be paid).
