Wee Church Mice

Does any else think it's incredible that with all that's going on inside the NHS 'watchdog' - the CQC - that the health trade unions have had so little to say.

After all some, if not all, of the senior figures who have been appearing in the news of late - must be members of Unison or the RCN or the BMA.

But instead of coming out into the open and venturing an opinion or two - all of these organisations seem to have lost their voices and become as quiet as church mice - as far as having something sensible to say.

Which I think is a shame because normally trade unions are as keen as can be when it comes to telling other people how to run things - whether it's the NHS or anything else the trade unions are normally desperate to get their point across.

As opposed to keeping their heads down - out of harms way.

So why are they so reticent to speak up about some of the recent scandals including the 1,200 unecessary deaths at Mid Staffordshire - or the latest debacle surrounding the CQC.

Could it be that the trade unions have become part of the establishment in the NHS - are they part of the NHS culture that led to so many people looking the other way?

I don't know for sure, but I do know that the NHS is one of the most highly unionised employers around - at all levels from top to bottom of the organisation.

Yet key people (many of them union members) decided not to stand up and be counted when the going got rough - and for that they should all be terribly ashamed.
