The Circle Game

The crazy behaviour by elements within the Conservative Party over the UK's membership of the European Union were captured perfectly - in my view - in this recent cartoon by Peter Brookes in the Times.

Now the last time the Tories had a proper working majority in the House of Commons - was when Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister.

And even though John Major pulled off a surprise win in the 1992 general election a swivel eyed rump of Tory MPs paralysed his government - and set up Tony Blair and New Labour for a landslide victory in 1997.

So it will be interesting to see what happens in the months ahead and whether the lunatics will succeed in taking over the asylum - but now that the disgraceful Patrick Mercer MP has been forced to resign the Tory Whip, there's one less swivel eyed loon for David Cameron to worry about.
