Viva Espana!


I had the pleasure last night of watching the Euro 2012 final in Spain - in a Catalan bar.

The atmosphere was fantastic and wonderfully friendly.

Everyone was drinking but no one was drunk - and the triumphant 4-0 victory over Italy was simply the icing on the cake - just what the doctor ordered, in fact.

Not only did the Spanish team win in style - playing their own version of total football - they also put to the sword the old maxim that - 'a good big one, will always beat a good little one'. 

Maybe there's hope for Scotland yet - but in the meantime Spain has shown the rest of the world that played in the right spirit - football can still be a really beautiful game.
