The Coo's Tail
Glasgow City Council is another place where the trade unions have lost all credibility over equal pay - with their members.
The unions antics over the past seven years have left a bad taste in people's mouths - first of all by doing nothing to challenge the council's discriminatory pay arrangements - then by encouraging their lowest paid members to accept very poor offers of settlement.
But the unions have such a brass neck it doesn't stop them from chancing their arm - and raising the issue of equal pay every now and then - although 'at the coo's tail' as usual it has to be said.
Here's an e-mail I sent to one reader from Glasgow - just the other day.
Dear Colleague,
Glasgow and Equal Pay
If you have received an unsolicited letter from your trade union regarding equal pay, then as someone with an existing claim you should just forward a copy on to Action 4 Equality Scotland and Fox Cross Solicitors - for information.
I'm sure there is nothing you need to do at this stage because the arrangements to pursue your outstanding claim against Glasgow City Council are already well underway - and various dates are already in the diary for tribunal hearings later this year.
So sit tight and take no action unless you are directly asked to do something by Action 4 Equality Scotland - or Fox Cross Solicitors.
The unions as usual are at the coo's tail - and represent a relative handful of claimants in Glasgow compared to the 5,500 clients represented by Action 4 Equality Scotland.
Kind regards
Mark
