Scunnered with Sarwar - Time For Baillie?

By all accounts, Labour seem to be heading for a humiliating defeat in next Thursday's Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse by-election on 5th June.

Until recently Labour were clear favourites to capture the seat from the SNP until the rapid rise of Reform and what Iain Macwhirter calls the 'scunner' factor changed things.

"Scots have fallen out of love with all the political parties in a big way. Even the SNP, who were the original insurgents back in the days of Govan, have been damaged by the rise of Reform and are polling far below the 47 per cent of the vote they won at the last Holyrood election."

Who knows what will happen, but if the result for Labour is a disaster the party can't go into next year's Holyrood elections with Anas Sarwar as leader.

Sarwar has failed to make the political weather which all good leaders must do and Jackie Baillie is the only one in Labour ranks who has the nous and ruthlessness to do what is required - for example:

1) Getting behind Nurse Sandie Peggie in her fight with Fife NHS - and pledging to remove the scourge of self-ID from Scotland's public services

2) Backing the UK Supreme Court ruling on biological sex - supporting parents and Scotland's Court of Session which has ordered schools to provide students with single-sex toilets

3) Protecting jobs and promoting industry - while exposing the SNP for its nonsense policy of leaving North Sea oil and gas in the ground

Labour has less than a year to get its act together.
