Well Done, Glasgow!
So Glasgow University has spoken out publicly in support of free speech and a valued staff member, after Dr Michael Foran (a law lecturer) became the target of malicious attacks by trans zealots.
I wrote to the Principal, Professor Andy Schofield, myself and it's encouraging to see the university doing the right thing - by refusing to be intimidated by trans bullies and blowhards.
Dear Professor Schofield
Malicious Attacks On Dr Michael Foran
I follow Dr Michael Foran on social media and share his interest in the law on equality issues, given my background in the fight for equal pay on behalf of Glasgow's low paid council workers.
In my view, Michael Foran is a credit to Glasgow University and his contribution to the public debate on the legislative framework surrounding the Equality Act 2010, for example, has been outstanding.
Whether you agree or disagree with Dr Foran, his comments are reasoned, thoughtful and measured - and always focused on the application/interpretation of the law, nothing else.
So I have been appalled in recent days to see that he has been the target of malicious complaints on social media from well known trans activists urging Glasgow University to take action against Dr Foran, as his employer.
I am sure you would not dream of taking these ludicrous complaints seriously, but in my view the ugly campaign against Dr Moran is tantamount to bullying, a cynical attempt at 'cancel culture' which requires a robust response from Glasgow University - in defence of free speech and reasoned public debate.
Kind regards
Mark Irvine
