Humza Yousaf's knee-jerk defence of the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) is a big mistake.
The two week delay in approving a police search warrant must seem bizarre to most people.
So why would Humza leap to the defence of COPFS (an arm of the Scottish Government) without knowing what the reason for what looks like a very laid back approach?
Tom Buchan, former chief superintendent of Strathclyde Police, said:
"The whole thing stinks to high heaven. Two weeks to get a warrant? It's beyond belief and it leaves the very real risk that someone could have been tipped off."
Sounds like a eminently sensible comment, so Humza Yousaf has a lot of explaining to do in the days ahead.
