Operation 'Clean Up Glasgow'

Well the council elections have come and gone, but Glasgow faces the same old problem which is that large parts of the city are still a real mess.

I keep saying that some areas require more bins, bigger bins or more frequently emptied bins - along with effective  enforcement action against the fly tippers and litter tossers.

Operation Clean Up Glasgow (February 01, 2022)

9,000 complaints about Glasgow's refuse service and the SNP led council still prefers to blame Covid instead of facing up to the fact that some areas require more bins, bigger bins and/or to have their bins collected more frequently.

Operation 'Clean Up Glasgow' (January 29, 2022)

I've been banging on about the filthy state of Glasgow for a long time, but there seems to be little interest in tackling the problem from the SNP led council and local MSPs.

If you ask me, what Glasgow needs is an imaginative campaign like this 'Don't be a tosser' initiative from York City Council.

Glasgow City Council ought to be leading a cross-party, multi-agency campaign which gets the public on side by encouraging everyone to take pride in the city, tackling hotspots and by dealing effectively with casual and persistent offenders.

Painting over some of the worst graffiti in time for COP26 coming to town was literally just papering over the cracks and it's high time the council and the city's politicians got their finger out.

Sprucing Up Glasgow vs SNP Priorities (December 08, 2021)

Anne makes a fair point that other parts of Glasgow are also in great need of being cleaned up, but what we need is a council focused on local priorities - not Indyref2!

We need leadership from and imagination from the City Council which involves a smart mixture of engagement (with local communities), education and enforcement so that people don't - 'shit in their own nest'.

Same with Glasgow's ugly graffiti problem.

Glasgow's Ugly Graffiti Problem (September 28, 2021)

I see that the ugly spray painted graffiti on the old BHS building on Sauchiehall Street still hasn't been removed - even though it's been there for many months, years possibly.

Now it's the owner's responsibility to remove this graffiti, but if the owner fails to act - surely the City Council should have the power to step in, take action and bill the owner for the work involved?

And if the Council lacks the ability to act in this pro-active way, why haven't they been demanding more powers from the Scottish Government - or are Council leaders scared of rocking the boat with the SNP?

Come to think of it this is exactly the kind of issue you'd expect local Glasgow MSPs to be jumping up and down about, but they're probably all too busy campaigning for IndyRef2!

Glasgow's Getting Worse - Not Miles Better! (August 13, 2021)

Glasgow’s problems with waste management, fly-tipping, litter and graffiti have all got much worse under the SNP - parts of the city resemble a midden these days!

And it's local people who are highlighting the council's failings rather than visiting politicians.
