Scotland's Politicians - No Experience Necessary!

How can it be fair that an elected councillor gets the 'rate for the job' from Day One (a minimum of £15 an hour) - yet Home Carers and other low paid council workers have to acquire five years experience?

In Glasgow the starting rate for a Home Carer is £9.20 an hour which rises to £9.63 after two years and £10.60 after five years.

Whereas a new councillor is paid between £15 and £30 an hour from the get go without the need for any 'on the job' experience.

The same is true for backbench MSPs and MPs - they don't require any work experience to qualify for their £65,000 or £82,000 salaries which work out at around £36 and £45 an hour respectively (not including their generous pension payments.

Ministers get paid significantly more, of course.

Politicians bang on about social justice all the time, but I'd be interested to hear how they justify a practice which treat councillors, MSPs and MPs more favourably than everyone else.
