Barcelona Uncut

If you're heading to Barcelona anytime soon and looking for something different to do, I can heartily recommend Nick Lloyd's walking tour which really brings to life the city's role in the terrible events surrounding the Spanish Civil War (1936 to 1939).

Here are a few typical reviews from Trip Advisor:

“I would go on this tour again”

3 hours is a long time for a history lesson, but the time just flew by. This is due to the way Nick is able to communicate directly with all of the different kinds of people who were on the tour that day. His passion and depth of knowledge are really really impressive. We have visited Barcelona many many times but Nick brings the places to life. He is a born teacher and encourages you to read beforehand and follow up later. It is to his credit that we have done just that. This is Barcelona as you may not have known it but I cannot recommend this tour highly enough.

“DO NOT MISS THIS TOUR”

This tour is NOT to be missed. My family and I took the tour in November of 2014 in order to gain a better understanding of Barcelona and to get a different perspective on its history. The tour completely satisfied on both points.

The tour given by Nick Lloyd is informative and engaging. He truly is an excellent teacher that engages all the tour participants in the history of the civil war with photos, maps and stories of the central figures that humanizes them. He does not overwhelm with facts or figures but provides an engaging narrative that captivates.

My wife and I took the tour with our three kids, ages 15, 14 and 12. Although my kids had very little knowledge of the civil war, the tour kept them interested and engaged. All of them say that the tour was a highlight of our stay in Barcelona! Not an easy feat to accomplish with three teenagers!

Nick's tour was absolutely great. Not too far, not too long, very interesting and a great mix of locations, photos, historical discussion and real life experiences. All rounded off in a great bar with drinks and further opportunity for questions and discussions. Whatever your historical knowledge the tour should develop your thoughts and enthuse you with greater understanding of real Barcelona and Catalonian history.

Nick's walking tour finishes in a local tapas bar just off Las Ramblas which is a convivial place to finish off the discussion, followed by some great local Catalan food and a few drinks.

The young woman with the rifle slung across her shoulder plays an incredible part in the amazing tale of Barcelona's struggle for survival, and its rebirth decades later as a modern European city.

Nick Lloyd's contact details are shown below and he's the chap on the right of the photo with a pink folder in his hands.

Enjoy!

Spanish Civil War tours in Barcelona

Spanish Civil War tours around Barcelona visiting some of the key sites in the city between 1936-1939. The tours cover themes such as Anarchism, George Orwell, the realities of daily life and bombing. I hope this is a different way of looking at the city. Contact (nick.iberianature@gmail.com)
