Standing Up, Speaking Out

A reader has been in touch to ask:

"What would happen if someone in a council payroll department - for example - came forward and told the truth about bonuses and pay discrimination against female council workers?"

Well the answer is that any person in that situation would be protected by the law - which says that people cannot be victimised for exposing wrongdoing - and discriminatory behaviour.

So, coming forward and speaking the truth could not be held against a person - who is simply doing the right thing.

In fact, any employer foolish enough to give victimise an employee who behaved in such a way - would leave themselves wide open to a claim for significant damages.

If you have something to say - don't be put off by what you fear an angry employer might do - because the law of the land is firmly on your side.
