Championing the Low Paid
Here's a nomination that Stefan Cross has received for Legal Personality of the Year - an event organised by the Law Gazette.
"I am delighted to nominate Stefan Cross for the Legal Personality of the Year Award.
More than any other lawyer Stefan has championed the rights of low paid women workers. Thousands of cleaners, catering staff and carers denied equal pay for decades have benefited from Stefan's determination, integrity and his fight to actually deliver equality .
He has faced very personalised and bitter resentment from the forces of the conservative establishment, not only from employers and public authorities. He did not give up. He focused on the needs of his clients and has delivered outstanding results.
In the year of the 40th Anniversary of the Equal Pay Act 1970 it would be an act of maturity, generosity and recognition for the legal establishment to honour the lawyer in their midst who is here and now making a real difference and an outstanding contribution both to the law and to the lives of thousands of low paid workers in England and Scotland."
As far as I know - no council based lawyers in Scotland have been nominated.
