Spicy Plum Compote

I bought a punnet of red plums the other day which were remarkably cheap.
I knew at the time they wouldn't be the tastiest, juiciest plums in the world, so I decided to turn them into a spicy plum compote.

All I did was to remove all the stones, cut the plums in half and cook them down a bit with a knob butter, some dark Demerara sugar, spiced up with some cinnamon and star anise.

Add a splash of white if you've got some handy, some water and continue simmering gently for 15 minutes of so until the fruit is soft

Great served with some plain Greek yoghurt - or as an accompaniment to roast chicken.
